Robowaifus are female robot companions yet to be fully realized that will serve a variety of functions for their partners. There are many approaches being explored on the path to developing them, such as dolls with animatronic features or augmented by artificial intelligence to virtual reality and simple chatbots. The term robowaifu is a portmanteau of robot and waifu. A robot being a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, and a waifu being a term for a fictional character, usually in anime or related media, that someone has a great affection for, so much that he wishes she were his wife.
